I hope you’ve had a productive and blessed week and are looking forward to the Sabbath rest.

Church is important—right? To us—definitely! Worship is important—Yes? Praying is important—Yes?  Reading God’s Word is important—Yes? Fellowship is important—Yes? Teaching our children God’s ways are important—Yes? Sabbath School is important—Yes? Jesus Christ is important—Absolutely! All these are important to us because most of us attend church and seek to be closer to God each day. However, this is not the case for most Australians.

In fact, many experts are calling Australia’s response to Christianity, “the changing face of Australia: from secular to post-secular”. In other words, Christianity has become irrelevant for many Australians, and we have gone from a secular country to a post-secular society. The God of the Bible just isn’t in the picture anymore. So, may I be straight forward and ask you a question? “What are we personally doing to make Jesus known to our post secular society?”

In this post-Christian world where the family unit is crumbling, morality is defined by secular humanism, and the church is shrinking in numbers, as well as influence. Many Christians are “shrugging their shoulders” in complacency. Yet, even in this post-secular/Christian world, the purpose of the church remains. Jesus commanded His disciples, “Therefore go and make disciples”. Paul reminds believers that the ministries of the church were given to prepare people for works of service and bring them to maturity, “the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” In fact, one of the major themes of the Bible is that believers are to become like Jesus and in turn tell others about Jesus. It’s all about making disciples. But before we can make disciples, we must be disciples ourselves. Disciples—not members. Disciples of Jesus have a passion to make other disciples. What our post-secular society needs are followers of Jesus who will love, care, and feel the urgency to make more followers of Jesus.

Don’t know where to start with your disciple making journey? The good news is that we are running our Discipleship Training at Park Ridge this year. If you would like to join, check out the Events section on this website and use the QR code to register your interest. We will be starting Saturday 15th of April at 3.30pm at Church in the Men’s Shed Seminar Hall. Looking forward to having you all join us!
