Have you heard of the ‘Worldometer”? If you were to google “worldometer” you would be able to see a web page solely dedicated to world statistics. In other words, it’s a world clock composed of live numbers in many different areas. Some of these areas include; current world population, currently daily births and deaths, daily public healthcare expenditure, live count of cars, bicycles and computers produced, books published, mobile phones purchased daily, daily emails sent, daily google searches and many, many more. As I write this message some of the most eye-catching statistics include; 156 million emails sent (and its only midday), 209 thousand births, 5 billion google searches, 1.7 billion people who are overweight, 17 thousand people who have died of hunger, 3.5 billion litres of water used and 54 thousand barrels of oil pumped.

However, the two most eye-catching statistics, in my opinion, were the deaths to date this year (46 million) and the current world population which stands at 7.98 billion people. I ponder on these two statistics and ask myself, of those 46 million people who have passed away, how many passed to their death believing in Jesus? And I ask the same question about the 7.98 billion people on planet Earth at this very moment. Almost eight billion people, it’s a big number and when I read it, it is only a number and I don’t see faces. But God does. To me, it's just a big number of people, but not for God. For God knows every single one of these people. God sees each of their faces, He knows their personal histories, heartaches, suffering, achievements and potentials. Most importantly God knows that Jesus died for every single one of these people. Jesus left the glory of heaven, the worship and adoration of the angels and the unfallen worlds, He left his throne and his position as King of the universe to come to this sin-stricken world and become a servant. The Apostle Paul in the book of Philippians puts it this way, “but made Himself (Jesus) of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Philippians 2:7-8). Jesus sees the faces of all the people that are going to walk on this Earth and He can’t bear the thought of not having them with Him for all eternity, thus Jesus comes, becomes a servant, is put to death on a cross for our sins and by it, provides hope for all fallen people, that if we believe in Him, we will have eternal life.

Church family, when Jesus sees you, He sees beyond your failures, shame, guilt, brokenness and sins. He sees someone worth dying for, Jesus sees someone worth leaving the glory of heaven for, Jesus sees someone worth suffering for. Friends, God values and loves every single person and wants everyone to be saved. Therefore, let’s remember that every person we talk to, every person we run into, every person we go to school or University with, everyone person we work with, every person we see is a child of God and Jesus gave His life up for them. This should encourage us to reflect the character of Jesus every second of every day because you may be the only reflection of Jesus people may get to see and experience. We are all so special to God, let us not forget that.
