Happy sabbath, church family,

We have officially crossed the threshold into the first week of July, finding ourselves at an interesting and pivotal point in the year. Six months have already passed, and six months still lie ahead, placing us precisely at the midway mark. For some, the year may have unfolded much as planned, moving along a familiar and expected path. For others, it may have brought unexpected joys, sudden disappointments, deep challenges, or profound changes. Perhaps there are specific goals you have already accomplished, dreams that are still waiting to be fulfilled, or heavy burdens you never anticipated carrying into this season.

At moments like these, when we balance the weight of the past six months against the uncertainty of the next six, we are anchored by the words of the prophet Jeremiah in Lamentations chapter 3, verses 22 and 23: "Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."  These words carry a beautiful promise for us at this mid-year milestone, reminding us that God's grace is not allocated in annual portions, but in daily mercies. We do not need to carry the collective weight of the last six months into the future, nor do we need enough strength today to thrive until December. The prophet reminds us that we are sustained day by day, and that no matter how draining, unpredictable, or challenging the first half of the year may have been, God's love prevents us from being consumed. 

This milestone invites us to pause, take a deep breath, and recognize that the faithfulness that brought us safely to July is completely independent of how well we think we have performed or how much we have achieved so far. Stepping forward into the remainder of the year becomes much less daunting when we realize we only have to meet it one morning at a time. We can let go of the pressure of unfulfilled goals and the anxiety of the unknown, trusting that fresh, sufficient compassion is waiting for us with every sunrise. Allow yourself to reflect on what has been, and what lies ahead. Invite the Holy Spirit to work in your heart, as you reflect and grow in your relationship with the Almighty. 

As we pause to reflect this week, let this be our prayer: Lord God, thank You for Your unwavering presence through the varied seasons of these past six months. Whether I come to this midway point celebrating victories or carrying heavy burdens, I thank You that Your compassions never fail. I surrender the joys, the disappointments, and the unfinished plans of the first half of this year into Your hands. As I look toward the months ahead, help me to rest in the assurance of Your daily mercies and to trust in Your great faithfulness, one morning at a time. Amen.
